Power in Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness at VU-Auburn Soccer Game
September 24, 2008
Vanderbilt’s soccer match against Auburn on Sunday, Sept. 28, has been selected as a Power In Pink contest to raise awareness of breast cancer.
Under Armour, uniform providers for both Auburn and Vanderbilt, has made special pink uniforms that both teams will wear at the 2 p.m. game on Sunday. The game will be televised regionally on Fox Sports Net as part of the Southeastern Conference’s Game of the Week package.
The Power in Pink initiative started this year with 10 collegiate teams participating this fall. The games were selected based on when two schools who wear Under Armour uniforms play each other.
The day of the game, representatives for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure and the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center will be stationed at the Soccer Complex to hand out materials and answer questions. There will also be donation points for those interested in raising funds to help find a cure for breast cancer.
“I think this is a great opportunity for us to help raise breast cancer awareness,” said Vanderbilt head coach Ronnie Coveleskie. “We gladly accepted the chance to do this and thank Under Armour for making it happen. I also believe the game getting televised on Fox Sports Net will allow the message to reach more people across the region.”
The Commodores are 6-1-1 entering SEC play this weekend against Alabama and Auburn.
